August “Auggie” Baetke

It is with a heavy heart I share the tragic news of the passing of August Baetke.
“Auggie” died, suddenly, this past weekend.
Some of you knew Auggie as the Judge of Elections for Ward 4-1 at McKinley Elementary School. Others knew him as the friendly, tireless Zamboni operator at the Old York Road Skating Rink.
I knew him as an extremely interesting man and a true “jack-of-all-trades” who had pictures of his vintage Volkswagens on his flip-phone. If anyone on Mayfield Ave. had a problem, they went to Auggie.
He will be dearly missed for his dedication and service to our community and our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

A viewing for Auggie will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 2, at the Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia 19154 with a service following the viewing.
